ChristChurch Re-Opening

Updated: 17th August 2020

I was glad when they said to me,
“Let us go to the house of the Lord!”

Psalm 122:1

We are delighted to announce that from 2nd August 2020 we will be resuming church services in our building. Although the services will be much shorter and look different to what we are used to we will be basing them on the early church in Acts. We are told in Acts 2:42 that:

‘And they devoted themselves to the apostles’ teaching and the fellowship, to the breaking of bread and the prayers.’

You can find a link to book into our Sunday meetings here.

The church elders, trustees and staff have been working hard to ensure that we reopen in a way that is as safe as possible and ensure we are in the remit of the government guidelines for places of worship (if you are interested in reading them they can be found here); because of this we will not be having any corporate sung worship or refreshments after the service for the time being.

However this doesn’t stop us from enjoying these things! We will be uploading our worship at 8am each week on YouTube so we encourage you to enjoy a time of sung worship at home before you arrive at the building. And why not invite another household round, or out for a picnic after the service to enjoy fellowship together (at a safe distance of course!)

Don’t worry if you would prefer not to attend just yet, or are not safely able to do so, we will still be uploading an online service each week as we have been through lockdown. These can all be found on our YouTube channel at 10am. It may also be that not everybody will be able to attend each week due to restrictions on numbers in the building and so it will allow everyone the chance to still worship from their homes.

Sunday Services

From Sunday 2nd August we will be holding 2 services each Sunday, 9:30am – 10:15am and 11:30am – 12:15pm. Initially we are intending to open the first service to those over 70 and shielding only, with the second meeting open to all. If we find we do not have the uptake we are anticipating to the first service we will make both of these open to all to ensure as many people as possible can attend each week if they wish, and will make other arrangements for those most vulnerable.

Seats will need to be pre-booked in advance through Eventbrite or our Facebook page. This will allow us to monitor the number of people in the building and ensure we can safely maintain social distancing. Details on how to pre-book will be made available by email to our church members nearer the time. (Those not able to access the internet will have the option to book by phone). If you are not a regular attendee or member of ChristChurch you are still very welcome, we will be allocating a percentage of our seats each week to visitors. If however you are able to book this would help us a lot, please email us at

Below is some key information you will need to know. Please do take the time to read this information and familiarise yourself with the guidelines.

General Information

When you arrive at church please ensure you maintain social distancing of 2 metres from another household. If you can please arrive between 15 and 5 minutes before the service it will allow everyone to arrive safely and find their seats in good time before we begin the meeting. There is a one-way system in place in the building which is clearly marked out when you arrive.

Alcohol hand gel stations are located at the entrance and around the building, please do use the gel when you arrive and leave. The toilets will be open for those that require them, however as the services are short we encourage you to go before you leave home, which will make our cleaning team’s jobs a lot easier!

In line with government guidelines, masks will be required from Sunday 9th August. Unless you are exempt from wearing a mask please ensure you wear your mask at all times in the building. Don’t worry, we will have spare masks at hand should you forget yours!

Please do ensure that you adhere to social distancing when in the building (as tempting as it might be to hug someone you haven’t seen for months!)

Please also make sure you are following general government advice, this includes not attending if you have been in contact with anyone with Coronavirus, or if you are displaying any of the main symptoms (persistent cough, fever or shortness of breath. Government guidelines can be found here.

Children and Youth

Sadly we are not able to have any structured children’s or youth work at the moment, but each service will be aimed at all ages, with a shorter family friendly preach. We will also be providing activity packs each week. Please bring along your own toys and also pens or crayons to complete the packs provided. There will be some toys available incase and these will be cleaned down each week.

Children and young people will need to remain seated as much as possible and stay with their household. Don’t worry about the noise your children might make, it is part of the joy of being together again! Also, remember you will need to accompany any children under 11 to the toilet and ensure they wash their hands well afterwards!

Breaking Bread

We will be breaking bread weekly to allow everyone to opportunity to break bread. We have decided the safest way to do this each week is to bring our own! So please bring with you a small amount of bread and grape juice/wine for your household. We would also ask if you can please take any remains or rubbish home with you at the end of the meeting.

Please can we encourage people to continue to give by cashless options such as bank transfer. If you are not able to and do wish to give by cash or cheque then this can be done at the end of the service. An offering box will be placed at the exit to the building and you can pop your money or cheque into it on the way out.
